René joined the staff of New Martinsville UMC in June of 2003 to lead the church in the areas of discipleship, spiritual formation, and Christian education. She also serves as music director for the 8:30 worship service. René and her husband, Bob, have two daughters, Erin - a grad student at James Madison; and Lauren - a student at West Virginia University.
After several years of teaching in the Tyler County School system, René answered a call to full-time ministry and in June 2004 was commissioned as a Permanent Deacon in the United Methodist Church. She holds a B.A in music (piano/vocal) from West Liberty State College and a M.A. in Education from West Virginia University. Her seminary work was completed at Asbury, Methesco, and United Theological Seminaries.
Rene enjoys playing the piano, singing, reading, taking long walks, and spending time with her family. As part of her job, René especially enjoys teaching others about the good news of Jesus Christ and helping people find their own ministry. If you would like to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Christ, or would like to find a special place of service in the church, René welcomes your e-mails and phone calls!
